Global Admissions

A student admitted to one campus is admitted to all our campuses: New York, São Paulo, Shenzhen, Online and in the future, Silicon Valley. That means families with professional commitments in Brazil, the United States, or—with Avenues Online—anywhere else can provide their children with an Avenues education. In addition, students at all our campuses benefit from frequent digital collaboration with their peers in other countries, as well as opportunities for campus exchanges and Global Journeys study abroad programs.

Admissions for the 2021-22 Academic Year

For the 2021-22 school year, we offer all grades from the Small World program for two-year-olds through our upper grades program for high-school aged students. We encourage you to review the application process below and complete an application for either Small World, kindergarten, primary, junior secondary or upper grades. Meet the Team

Matt Lai

Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management

Matt Lai joined Avenues after 14 years at Woodside Priory School in Portola Valley, California where he served in a number of roles, including director of admissions & financial aid, dean of students, dean of residential life, teacher, and coach. He is currently a trustee at the Enrollment Management Association, a non-profit organization that administers the SSAT and provides professional support and enrollment tools to over 1,300 independent schools around the world. As part of his admissions work prior to joining Avenues, Matt traveled extensively in China, recruiting students for U.S. boarding schools and speaking on panels about international education. Before transitioning to a career in education, Matt was a litigation attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP in Manhattan. Matt holds a J.D. from Columbia Law School as well as an M.A. and B.A. from Stanford.

Tina Li

Associate Director of Admissions

Tina joined Avenues in June 2018, bringing six years of experience in marketing and admissions at the International School of Nanshan in Shenzhen. Before working in education, Tina received a B.S. in accounting and held roles in finance at TNT Express International. Her work in international schools led Tina to develop a passion for global education and to study for a master's degree in Educational Psychology.

Penny Pan

Associate Director of Admissions

Penny has worked with children of different ages and cultural backgrounds, from young children in immersion programs in New York to primary schoolers in the UK and rural China. Prior to joining Avenues, Penny served as a senior educational consultant, responsible for admissions counseling, curriculum design and coaching middle schoolers in integrated projects. Penny earned her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Catherine Deng

Catherine joined Avenues in May 2019. Previously, she worked for six years at Wall Street English, serving as Deputy Center Director with responsibility for admissions. Catherine holds a B.A. from Wuhan University of Science and Technology and is currently working towards an MBA from Xi’an Jiaotong University. She was born and raised in Xianning City, Hubei Province.

Jingyi (Joy) Ke

Admissions Operations Manager

Jingyi (Joy) Ke joined Avenues in 2020, bringing a diverse range of experiences to the admissions team, including six years studying and working overseas. Before deciding to pursue her passion for international education in Shenzhen, Jingyi spent two years as a volunteer teacher at Teach For China. She was born and raised in Shenzhen and holds a B.A. in tourism and hospitality management and an M.A. in international banking and finance.
