Opening in fall 2021, the Junior Secondary Program builds on the Primary Division and introduces students to a wide range of new experiences. The program is rooted in Chinese compulsory education, enhanced by the Avenues World Elements and taught through our research-based transformative learning experiences. The program is structured around three pillars:
Belonging and wellbeing: social-emotional, physical and mental health
Learning for the future: Avenues’ innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum
Preparing for a global world: international experiences and an emphasis on English
AN EMPHASIS ON ENGLISH
Preparing students to thrive around the world
As students move through the grades, the percentage of their day spent in English increases from 50% in grade 5 to 60% in grades 6 and 7 to 70% in grades 8 and 9. This ensures that those students who wish to pursue higher education overseas have the academic vocabulary to thrive wherever their studies take them, while maintaining the solid foundation in Mandarin that will allow them to flourish in China.

The Avenues World Elements
How does Avenues equip its students to become future world-wise leaders? The Avenues World Elements table is our answer to that question. Designed by our research and development team, the Avenues World Elements is a global curricular system that defines the learning outcomes of Avenues students at all grade levels. In Shenzhen, the Avenues World Elements are integrated with Chinese compulsory education to yield a program that is global in scope and local in focus.
