Small World is Avenues’ innovative program for 2-year-olds: a joyful and enriching first school experience that fosters healthy separation in a bilingual English/Mandarin environment. The program emphasizes:
The acquisition of developmental skills through play, exploration and specialty classes
Daily exposure to English and Mandarin in a bilingual environment
The fostering of social-emotional and self-help skills
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY
A balance of structured activities and free play encourage children to learn while having fun, making discoveries for themselves and developing their fine motor skills.
The Fundamentals
The program is based on the five core learning experiences of early childhood, as defined by Nancy Schulman, head of the Early Learning Center at Avenues New York, in her book Practical Wisdom for Parents:
- Separation
- Being part of a group
- Initiation of socialization
- Basic communication skills
- Establishing and following routines
A Global Curriculum for a World School
What do Avenues students learn? The Avenues World Elements table is our answer to that question. Designed by our research and development team, the Avenues World Elements is a global curricular system that defines the learning outcomes of Avenues students at all grade levels, at all our campuses.
Admissions Process
Find the combination that suits your family
Small World is a half-day program, offered in the morning and afternoon. Parents may choose from two, three or five days per week.
A.M. PROGRAM, 8:30–11:30 A.M.
P.M. PROGRAM, 2:00–5:00 P.M.
Two-Day: Tuesday and Thursday
Three-Day: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Five-Day: Monday through Friday
The Small World program is for children who will be 2 by August 31 of their year of entry.
